Rear Seat Belt Compulsory for car made in 1995 onwards

January 16th, 2012  Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Our government Malaysia through JKJR (Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya) had set a compulsory rules to install passenger back seat belts on it’s campaign launched on 1st June 2008 and given car owners a grace period of 3 years to have this install in their cars.

This is made compulsory only for car registered from 1st January 1995 onwards and it takes effect from 1st January 2012. I’ve personally called JPJ to confirm this ruling. For cars 1995 and below there isn’t a need to install passenger car belt forever!

If you have doubts about this, kindly call them personally at this number: Hotline:+60388884244 (Aduan & Khidmat Nasihat) http://portal.jpj.gov.my/

A small percentage of 10% cars in Malaysia use seat belt so far. Whoever who doesn’t follow the rules whether it’s the driver or their passengers who doesn’t wear a seat belt will be penalized RM300 compound. And the worse case will be penalized for an amount of not exceeding RM2,000 or imprisonment of not less than 1 year or both.
